Testing: Governor Reynolds signed HF2081 into law on June 13, 2022, eliminating the requirement that graduates from Iowa teacher preparation programs pass a program completion assessment, such as the PRAXIS, edTPA or PPAT. Candidates should contact their Iowa teacher preparation program before applying for the initial teaching license.
Processing times, late fees, and extensions: You must have a valid license in order to serve as an educator in Iowa. You may need to apply for an extension if your license is expiring soon. Late fees will be assessed for applications received after a license has expired.
