Licensure
Quick Links
Current Announcements - Updated: February 15, 2022
Processing times, late fees, and extensions: You must have a valid license in order to serve as an educator in Iowa. You may need to apply for an extension if your license is expiring soon. Late fees will be assessed for applications received after a license has expired.
Substitute licensure: The Board of Educational Examiners has established an emergency rule to allow paraeducators employed in an Iowa public school district or non-public school who hold a paraeducator certificate with a substitute authorization as an area of concentration to be allowed to substitute outside their assigned special education classroom IF permission is granted. This permission is not intended for long-term subbing. Click here for more information about substitute licensure.
Office Hours: Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Consultants may be reached via phone or email during regular business hours. In-person visits to consultants are by appointment only. (We will be closed for core state holidays)
Fingerprinting Services: All individuals wishing to be printed at the BoEE office must first make an appointment by calling our main number (515-281-3245). No walk-ins will be permitted.
